Description
Mifepristone 10mg
Applications
Mifepristone (also known as RU 486) is used to cause an abortion during the early part of pregnancy. It is used until week 10 of pregnancy (up to 70 days after the first day of your last menstruation). Mifepristone blocks a natural substance (progesterone) that is needed for your pregnancy to continue.
It is usually used along with another medication called misoprostol.
Mifepristone should not be used if you have a rare abnormal pregnancy outside the uterus (ectopic pregnancy). It will not cause an abortion in this case. It can cause an ectopic pregnancy to rupture, resulting in very serious bleeding.
How to use mifepristone 200 mg abortive tablets
Read the Medication Guide provided by your doctor before you start using mifepristone 10 mg. Save the guide to read it again if necessary. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist. Read and sign the Patient Agreement form provided by your doctor.
Tell your doctor if you do not understand how to use this medication or if you cannot follow instructions. Mifepristone is only available from your doctor. It is not available in in-store pharmacies.
You should visit the doctor’s office at least 2 times to complete your treatment and important tests. This treatment is only administered under direct medical supervision in a doctor’s office, clinic, or hospital. Make sure you have clear instructions from your doctor about who to call and what to do in an emergency.
Your doctor may want to do an ultrasound to make sure your pregnancy is less than 10 weeks and is not outside the uterus (ectopic).
Take mifepristone by mouth as directed by your doctor, usually in a single dose. After taking mifepristone, your doctor should tell you to wait 24 to 48 hours before taking another medication (misoprostol) by mouth in a single dose.
The medications may not work as well if you take misoprostol before 24 hours after taking mifepristone or after 48 hours after taking mifepristone. Carefully follow your doctor’s instructions. Heavy vaginal bleeding does not mean that the abortion is complete.
